Junior defender Adam Donner and junior midfielder Tim Edwards of the Canisius College men’s lacrosse team were both named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
A second-team All-MAAC selection as a sophomore, Donner anchored the Canisius defense in his first full season as a starter in 2013. In 13 games, Donner collected 18 ground balls and a team-best 11 caused turnovers. The North Tonawanda, N.Y. native was one of just two underclassmen on defense to earn all-conference honors a season ago.
Edwards is a two-time all-conference honoree, earning first-team accolades in 2013 after collecting second-team honors as a rookie. The Jamesville, N.Y. native led the Canisius offense as a sophomore, posting team highs with 39 points, 20 goals and 19 assists. He finished third in the MAAC with 3.00 points per game and second with 1.46 assists per game.
As a team, Canisius was tied for fourth in the MAAC Preseason Poll with Quinnipiac. Siena was picked first and was followed by defending champion Detroit and Marist. Manhattan and Monmouth rounded out the poll in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
The Griffs open the season on Feb. 15 with a road contest at Boston University. Canisius returns nine starters and 24 letterwinners from the 2013 squad and is just two years removed from the program’s second MAAC Championship in 2012.
