The Canisius College track team concluded its regular season on Saturday at the Brockport Golden Eagle Run.

The Griffs’ performance was highlighted by taking the five of the top-six spots in the men’s 1500-meter run and putting four in the top-five of the women’s 1500-meter run.

Sophomore Cooper Roach took the top-spot in the event, finishing with a time of 3:58.24. Sophomores Travis Jordon (second) and Mike Anvelt (third), freshman Jeff  Antolos (fourth) and junior Chad Maloy (sixth) rounded out the Griffs in the top-six.

“This was our final tune up for MAACs, and it went very well,” said head coach Nate Huckle. “We focused on the 1500 to get Cooper, Travis and a few of the other guys into the rhythm for their race at MAACs. For Jeff, Chad and some of the others, it was a final sharpening session.”

On the women’s side, freshman Haley Keene was Canisius’ top finisher in 4:57.25, good for second place. Junior Jamie Wallace, senior Catherine Phillips and freshman Anna Phillips took third through fifth respectively.

“The plan was the same for the women and they carried it out well,” Huckle said. “Most of them will be stepping up to the 5k for the conference meet.”

Freshman A.J. Stuver was also a top-finisher for the Blue and Gold, racing to a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Stuver finished the event in 10:06.21.

“We are hoping to capitalize on the outstanding competition at the MAACs and run our best times of the season,” Huckle said. “Both squads are in great shape and we want to build even more momentum going into our preparation for the cross country season.”

The Griffs will next compete in the MAAC Championships on Saturday, May 3.
