The Canisius baseball team was ranked No. 29 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll released on Monday. The Golden Griffins are ranked for the first time in program history.

Canisius starts the week on a 16-game winning streak, the longest active winning streak in the country as well as the longest winning streak in program history. The 16-game winning streak is tied with South Carolina and Kennesaw State for the longest streak in the country at any point this season.

Canisius received votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll prior to the start of the 2013 and 2011 seasons.

The Golden Griffins are 38-14 on the season and posted a 20-4 record in MAAC play, winning the regular-season title for the fourth time (1994, 2008 and 2010) and setting a program record with the 20 conference victories.

Canisius starts the week ranked No. 59 in the official NCAA RPI rankings. The Golden Griffins were ranked No. 163 on April 15, and have improved their ranking by 104 spots during the last five weeks.

Canisius has won at least 38 games for the fourth time (2008, 2010, 2013) in the last seven seasons. Only two other MAAC schools (Marist in 2002 and LeMoyne in 2006) have ever won 38 games in a season.

The No. 1 seed Golden Griffins open play in the 2014 MAAC Championship on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be determined. The six-team, double-elimination tournament is taking place at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, N.J.
