Canisius head softball coach Mike Rappl announced today that the Golden Griffins will embark on an eight-day foreign tour to Italy July 18-25. While in Italy, Canisius is scheduled to play six exhibition games, including two games against the Italian National Team.
The Griffs will practice as a team in Buffalo four times between July 15-17, before departing for Italy. The Blue and Gold is scheduled to play the Italian National Team July 19, in a doubleheader at Forli Stadium in Forli, Italy and then the team will play two more games against the host Forli club team July 20. After a day off to travel and tour the city of Venice, the Griffs will take part in a community service project at Caritas Forli in the morning of July 22, before spending the afternoon in the city of San Marino.
Canisius will travel to Rome July 23 for a day of sightseeing before playing two games against Team Roma July 24, at the Italian Olympic Training Center. Canisius will leave Italy to return to Buffalo on July 25.The Canisius softball team returns 12 position players and one pitcher from last year’s squad that went 18-30 overall and 8-12 in MAAC play. Two of the returning position players, rising sophomores Jessica Berzins and Lindsey Silfer, earned All-MAAC Second Team honors after their rookie campaigns in 2014.
