Coach Terry Zeh has announced the non-conference schedule for the 2014-15 season for the Canisius women’s basketball team. The nine-game schedule features five teams that played in the postseason during the 2013-14 campaign.
“We have a good balance across the non-conference schedule, which includes five postseason teams,” Zeh said. “I’m excited to see how we develop against this schedule to prepare for conference play.”
Canisius takes on rival St. Bonaventure on Friday, Nov. 14, facing the Bonnies in Olean in the season opener for the first time in program history. The Griffs play their first game in the Koessler Athletic Center on Wednesday, Nov. 19, when Canisius hosts Binghamton for the first time since 2009-10. After a quick turnaround to play at Bryant two days later, the Griffs host three-time defending America East champion Albany on Nov. 26.
After Thanksgiving, Canisius returns to the road to face St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Nov. 30. Following the first weekend of play in the MAAC as well as final exams, Canisius hosts Youngstown State on Dec. 13. Canisius heads to Syracuse for the teams’ first meeting since the 2009 WNIT on Dec. 16, before traveling to the University of Michigan on Dec. 19, for the first time since the 1995-96 season. The Griffs wrap up non-conference play against crosstown rival the University at Buffalo on Dec. 29.
Canisius returns eight letterwinners, including three of the top four scorers, from the 2013-14 team that posted a 13-17 overall record and 9-11 record in MAAC play to finish in fifth-place in the conferences standings, the best conference finish for the Golden Griffins in the past five seasons.
