Head rowing coach Joel Furtek announced on Tuesday the addition of Erin Neppel to the Canisius rowing coaching staff.
"I'm thrilled to have Erin join our staff, completing my own "Dream Team" of coaches beside Stephanie Parrish, now in her 4th year and second master's degree at Canisius,” said Furtek. "Erin has displayed the will to win from her very first strokes as a novice in 1997, and has applied it at every stage of her career."
Neppel is a 2001 graduate of the University of North Carolina and is pursuing her master’s degree in Sports Administration at Canisius. While at Carolina, Neppel was a Three-Time All-ACC standout and a CRCA Scholar-Athlete. Her Varsity-Eight regularly made the Grand Final at the NCAA Central Regional and was ranked in the top-15 nationally.
"She's easily the fastest rower I've ever coached, but more importantly, she has been the single biggest contributor to the speed of every rower in her boat," said Furtek. "It was important that she won every pairs ladder that we held at Carolina, but more so that she could win with the slowest starboard in her boat. She elicits great things from all around her, and this is the primary skill of any coach. I'm proud to have her join the Griffs' crew!"
The new assistant’s experience includes coaching the Central Florida rowing team and she was also instrumental in running the Nike Rowing Camps in Chapel Hill.
In addition to coaching at Canisius College, Neppel will be overseeing the coaching of both the boy’s and girl’s squads at the West Side Rowing Club.
