The Canisius College men's basketball team plays its final home game of the 2013 calendar year this afternoon when the Golden Griffins play host to Lamar in the Koessler Athletic Center. Canisius comes into this game having won four of its last five, dating back to Dec. 6.

Canisius plays its final home non-conference game of the season this afternoon when the team hosts Lamar in the back half of a basketball doubleheader.
The Griffs are coming off an 83-73 win at Holy Cross Monday night. Canisius has won four of its last five and six of its last eight since starting the year 1-2.
In the win over Holy Cross, Canisius senior Billy Baron scored a season-high 31 points while matching a career-high with nine rebounds. Baron has scored 30 or more points in four games as a Griff.

• The Griffs come into today’s game with a 7-4 overall record. The team will head into the Christmas holiday break with a winning record for the second-straight season and for just the fourth time since the 2000-01 campaign.
• Canisius shot 82.1 percent (23-for-28) from the free-throw line in Monday’s win at Holy Cross, the second consecutive game where the Griffs were better than 80 percent from the charity stripe. Senior Billy Baron went a perfect 13-for-13 from the line in that game, making him just the second player in school history to go perfect from the stripe (among players with 12 or more chances in a game).
• As a team, Canisius has scored 80-plus points in four games this season (4-0 in those contests) and 14 times in 45 games under second-year head coach Jim Baron. The Griffs are 11-3 when scoring more than 80 points under Baron’s guidance.

• Lamar enters today’s game with a 1-9 overall record, having dropped six straight. The Cardinals lost at LIU-Brooklyn by the score of 82-79 Wednesday night.
• Lamar junior guard Nimrod Hilliard leads the team with his 15.8 points per game scoring average. He is one of three Cardinals averaging double figures this season.
• Senior forward Amos Wilson is good for 13.4 points per game and teammate Donovan Ross is chipping in 11.1 points and a team best 6.3 rebounds per game. Ross also leads the team in field goal percentage, where he’s shooting 55.0 percent (44-for-80) from the field.
• Hilliard leads the way for Lamar with his 5.2 assists per game average. As a team, the Cardinals are averaging 68 points per game, while allowing 79.1 points per contest.
• Lamar comes into this afternoon’s contest ranked 334th in the nation in rebounding margin at minus 5.8. As a team, the Cardinals have recorded just 82 offensive rebounds in 10 games so far this year.

• This will be the second all-time meeting between Canisius and Lamar, with the Golden Griffins taking the first contest by the score of 78-72 on Dec. 22, 2010.
• Lamar will be the 58th Division I school to play the Griffs on the court inside the Koessler Athletic Center. The Cardinals are the second Southland Conference member school to play in the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs hosted Northwestern State on campus during the 2010-11 season.
• Canisius is currently 2-1 all-time against current members of the Southland Conference, with the wins coming against Northwestern State and Lamar.
