The Canisius College men's basketball team closes out its weekend homestand on Sunday when the Golden Griffins play host to MAAC newcomer Monmouth. This will mark the first meeting between the two schools, as Monmouth becomes the 55th Division I men's basketball program to play Canisius in the Koessler Athletic Center.

Canisius closes out its MAAC weekend homestand this afternoon when the Golden Griffins play host to conference newcomer Monmouth in the Koessler Athletic Center.
The Griffs are coming off a 94-91 double-overtime victory against Rider Friday night. In that game, Canisius senior Billy Baron scored a career-high 38 points, highlighted by the game-winning 3-pointer at the end of the second overtime. That play ranked as the No. 7 play on ESPN SportsCenter Top Plays Jan. 10-11.
The Griffs come into this game with a 10-6 overall record and a 4-1 mark in MAAC play. The Blue and Gold is 5-0 at home this season, and the team starts today’s contest with a 17-4 record in its last 21 home dates.

FAST BREAK POINTS
• The Griffs are averaging 85.4 points per game in five home contests this season.
• Canisius senior Billy Baron is averaging 32.5 points per game this week in games against Marist and Rider. He starts today ranked sixth in the nation in scoring with his 22.7 points per game scoring average.
• Canisius senior Jordan Heath set a new school record with nine blocked shots in 42 minutes of action Friday against Rider. He’s the 12th Division I player this season to record nine or more blocks in a game.
• Redshirt-freshman Phil Valenti came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points and record nine rebounds in the team’s win Friday night.

ABOUT THE HAWKS
• Monmouth comes into this afternoon’s contest with an 8-8 overall record and a 2-3 mark in MAAC play after beating Niagara 85-74 Friday night in Lewiston, N.Y.
• The Hawks are one of two new teams in the MAAC this season. Monmouth and Quinnipiac joined the conference prior to the start of the 2013-14 academic year.
• Junior Deon Jones leads the Monmouth offense with his 15.9 points per game scoring average. Jones has scored in double figures 12 times this season after having 14 points at Niagara Friday night.
• Sophomore Tyrone O’Garro leads Monmouth with his 6.6 rebounds per game. As a team, the Hawks start today’s game averaging 36.9 rebounds per game.
• Monmouth is averaging 71.9 points per game, which ranks seventh in the MAAC. The team is shooting 41.9 percent from the field, which also ranks seventh in the conference.
• The Hawks are shooting just 65.3 percent from the free-throw line this season, which ranks 11th in the league and 308th in the nation.

CANISIUS - MONMOUTH SERIES
• Today’s game between Canisius and Monmouth will mark the first meeting in program history.
• Dating back to 2005-06, Canisius is 10-10 in its last 20 games when meeting an opponent for the in school history.
• Monmouth is the 55th Division I men’s basketball program to play a game against Canisius in the Koessler Athletic Center since the building opened in 1968.
