Baron, Washington Earn All-MAAC Postseason Honors

Junior Billy Baron was named to the All-MAAC First Team while senior Harold Washington was named to the All-MAAC Third Team on Monday afternoon. The honors were voted on by the league's coaches.

Baron is now eligible to be named the Pepsi Max MAAC Player of the Year, which will be announced at the Postseason Awards Show, held in the Basketball Hall of Fame. The ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

Baron is the first Golden Griffin to be named to the All-MAAC First Team since Darren Fenn in 1999-2000.

The Greenwich, R.I. native ranks fifth in the MAAC in scoring at 16.6 points per game and leads the conference at 5.1 assists per game. Baron earned MAAC Player of the Week honors twice during his junior season. The 6-foot-2 guard has scored in double figures 26 times, including each of the last nine games. Washington, a preseason All-MAAC Second-Team selection, receives All-MAAC honors for the second consecutive season, earning All-MAAC Second-Team honors after his junior season. The Brandywine, Md. native averages ranks 12th in the conference in scoring (13.7) and is second in the MAAC in 3-point field goal percentage (41.7). The 6-foot-1 guard is averaging 20.3 points in the last four games, scoring in double figures in 21 games on the season.

Canisius opens play in the 2013 MAAC Championship at noon on Saturday, held at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. The No. 5 seed Golden Griffins will face No. 4 Iona in the quarterfinal round, with tipoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The game can be seen live on ESPN3.
