Members of the Canisius women’s basketball coaching staff answered the Cold Water Challenge on to help raise money for the Kay Yow Foundation.

The Cold Water Challenge was started by the Arizona women’s basketball program to raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Coach Niya Butts issued the challenge early in June to women’s basketball coaches and student-athletes across the country to have a bucket of cold water dumped on them. Before that happens, the coaches and student-athletes can issue challenges to other people.

A number of coaches in the women’s basketball community called out the Golden Griffins. Canisius coach Terry Zeh was challenged by Mount St. Mary’s coach Bryan Whtiten, American coach Megan Gebbia as well as VCU head coach Beth O’Boyle. Zeh and his assistant coaches, Tara Fleming, Nick Moore and Megan Shoniker were challenged by Bowling Green assistant coach Jacey Brooks. Fleming also was challenged by Niagara coach Kendra Faustin. Shoniker also was challenged by Vanderbilt associate head coach Tom Garrick, her head coach during her playing career at Rhode Island.

Any head coach that doesn't answer the challenge owes the Kay Yow Foundation $250. For each coach that answers the challenge, the original challenger will owe $50. Any assistant coach that doesn't answer the challenge owes the Kay Yow Foundation $100. For each coach that answers the challenge, the original challenger will owe $25.

Zeh challenged the University of Rochester staff. Shoniker called out Kelly Morrone, head coach at John Carroll, and Chris Passmore, assistant coach at Northeastern. Crystal Porter called out Damika Martinez from Iona, Kristen Sharkey from Buffalo and Madeline Blais from Marist. Moore called out Lester Harbin, head coach at Salem International, and Mountain MacGillivray, assistant coach at Quinnipiac. Fleming called out Western Michigan assistant Cetera Washington, Quinnipiac assistant Marie Warner and Kentucky assistant Adeniyl Amadou.
