The Canisius College men and women's cross country teams return to the course on Saturday afternoon at the 45th annual UAlbany Invitational. The women will compete first in the Bobbi Palma Women's Championship at 2:35 p.m. followed by the R.K. Munsey Men's Championship at 3:10 p.m.
Entering Saturday's race, the men and women's teams are coming off 19th and 20th place-finishes at the 38th annual Brooks Paul Short Run on Sept. 30 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. In the men's race, freshman Chad Maloy placed 42nd to lead the men for the fourth time this season. On the women's side, senior Christine Mulvihill took top honors for the third straight race for Canisius with her 38th place finish.
Last year at the UAlbany Invitational, former Griff Maura Frauenhofer earned a third-place finish to lead the women's squad to a program best fourth-overall finish at the Invitational. The Griffs' finish marked the fifth consecutive race that the team recorded a top-10 overall finish.
For the fourth time in five races, sophomore Nate McCabe led the men's team, finishing in 23rd place to secure a time of 25:56. The men's team finished 13th overall at the Invitational among a field of 25 teams.
Saturday's appearance at the UAlbany Invitational will serve as the last race for both squads before the teams compete in the 2011 MAAC Championship at Van Cortlandt Park.
