The Canisius College women’s soccer team lost to Marist 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon at Demske Sports Complex.

The Griffs turned in another strong defensive performance, highlighted by senior goalkeeper Megan Tock’s 12 saves, but were unable to find the back of the net.

It was the third time this season that Tock has made 10 or more saves. Her 12 saves were three-shy of her career-high 15 saves, which she set against Detroit on Sept. 6. Tock came into today’s game ranked ninth in the nation in total saves.

“I thought our defense has played well the last four or five games,” said head coach Jim Wendling. “We’re going through a stretch where we’re giving up less goals in the last few games than we have in the last couple of years. Megan [Tock] has been outstanding this year and made a couple of great saves again today. Our defense is making great decisions, and winning those 50-50 balls, but now we’ve got to score.”

The Griffs are giving up just 1.33 goals per game to MAAC opponents, but have failed to net more than one goal in the last four contests.

Marist’s Rycke Guiney ended the game in the 99th minute, when she took a pass from Ashlee Burke near the top of the box and beat a Canisius defender. From just inside the box, Guiney rifled a shot to the far corner for the game-winner.

Canisius will return to action on Saturday, when it plays host to Fairfield. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
