The Canisius College track team picked up three of individual victories at the UB Open on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Michael Anvelt won the men’s 1500-meter run for the Griffs and freshman Jeff Antolos picked up a victory in the men’s 3000-meter run, while sophomore Travis Jordon took the top-spot in the 800-meter run.
Anvelt won his race by just over a second over James Dickson of Buffalo, racing to a time of 4:02.16. Jordon completed his event in 1:57.85, good for a victory by just under a second.
Antolos’ time of 8:41.89 won his event, with junior Chad Maloy (8:43.11) finishing third in the event and freshman Xavier Sauvageau right behind in fourth (8:47.82).
Canisius placed five women in the top-nine of the 3000-meter run, with senior Catherine Phillips leading the way with a time of 10:31.10. Freshmen Anna Phillips (sixth), and Macey Walker (seventh), and sophomores Mary Kate Chambers (eighth) and Robin Wagner (ninth) rounded out the Griffs in the field.
Senior Jamie Wallace also posted a strong race for the Griffs, taking fifth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:56.03.
In the 800-meter run, the Blue and Gold placed three in the top-seven, with junior Brandi Pettit’s fifth-place finish leading the way. She completed the event in 2:24.17. Freshmen Haley Keene and Jenna Wallace finished in sixth and seventh respectively.
Canisius will return to action next week at the Brockport Golden Eagle Run next Saturday at 10 a.m.
