The Canisius College track team will compete at the MAAC Championships on Saturday at Rider.
The Griffs are competing in their first outdoor MAAC Championships since being brought back as a program this season.
The 1500-meter run shapes up to be one of the top events for the Griffs this weekend, with the Blue and Gold posting a dominant showing in the event last week at Brockport.
The Griffs’ performance was highlighted by taking the five of the top-six spots in the men’s 1500-meter run and putting four in the top-five of the women’s 1500-meter run.
Sophomore Cooper Roach took the top-spot in the event, finishing with a time of 3:58.24. Sophomores Travis Jordon (second) and Mike Anvelt (third), freshman Jeff Antolos (fourth) and junior Chad Maloy (sixth) rounded out the Griffs in the top-six.
On the women’s side, freshman Haley Keene was Canisius’ top finisher in 4:57.25, good for second place. Junior Jamie Wallace, senior Catherine Phillips and freshman Anna Phillips took third through fifth respectively.
Some of last weekend’s top-finishers in the 1500-meter run will be moving up to the 5k this weekend, another event that Canisius will be largely competitive in.
Freshman A.J. Stuver was also a top-finisher for the Blue and Gold at Brockport, racing to a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Stuver finished the event in 10:06.21.
Action is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
