Freshman Billy Jacobbi of the Canisius College men’s lacrosse team was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday after helping the Griffs split a pair of games against Binghamton and Jacksonville.
Jacobbi recorded five goals in the two contets to help lead the Canisius offense. The rookie registered two tallies in a 12-11 win over Binghamton, the first multi-score game of his career. He then added his first collegiate hat trick in an 11-10 setback to Jacksonville on Saturday.
In four games since moving into the Griffs’ starting lineup, Jacobbi has totaled 10 points, six goals and four assists. The rookie has helped Canisius increase its scoring offense by 1.75 goals per game in the four contests with Jacobbi in the lineup (7.25 to 9.00).
Jacobbi and the Griffs now turn their attention toward Detroit on Saturday in a battle where the winner earns the last spot in the 2013 MAAC Tournament. The contest in Detroit is set to begin at noon.
