After helping the Canisius College women's lacrosse team to its first win of the 2013 season, junior Maria Kotas and senior Lindsey Morgan were recognized by the MAAC on Tuesday. Kotas was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Morgan collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Kotas led the Griffs with a career-best six points in a 13-7 win against Binghamton on Saturday. The junior matched a career high with four tallies to go along with two assists to lead the Canisius attack. She also added four ground balls and three draw controls in the winning effort.

Three games into the 2013 season, Kotas ranks second on the team with eight points and is tied for the team lead with five goals. A two-time selection to the All-MAAC Second Team, Kotas has totaled 60 points, 43 goals, 17 assists, 80 ground balls, 67 draw controls and 44 caused turnovers during her career at Canisius.

Morgan anchored a strong defensive showing for Canisius in the win against Binghamton, matching a school record with eight caused turnovers. Morgan was especially strong in the first half as the Griffs built a lead they would not relinquish. Canisius limited the Bearcats to just four shots in the opening 30 minutes with the Bearcats committing a turnover on 12-of-16 possessions, six forced by Morgan.

The senior midfielder now ranks 10th nationally with 2.67 caused turnovers per game. She has also added six points, four goals, two assists, six ground balls and five draw controls for the Griffs in 2013.

A two-time selection to the All-MAAC Team, including a first-team honoree last season, Morgan ranks ninth in school history with 87 career points and eighth with 69 career goals. She has also added 16 assists, 93 ground balls, 60 caused turnovers and 55 draw controls during her collegiate career.

Kotas, Morgan and the Griffs return to action on Wednesday with a road contest against Robert Morris. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
