Seniors Morgan Leonard and Lindsey Morgan both earned MAAC weekly accolades after helping the Griffs clinch the conference’s regular-season title outright this past weekend. Leonard was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Morgan collected MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The duo helped Canisius finish the MAAC season with a perfect 6-0 record after a 16-13 victory against Marist. The Griffs earned the top seed to the MAAC Tournament for the first time in the program’s history and are also the first Canisius team to go undefeated in conference play since softball in 1993. Leonard led the Griffs with a career-best five goals in the win against the Red Foxes, while Morgan recorded a game-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers to go along with four goals.

One of the top midfielders in the country, Leonard leads the Griffs with 49 goals to go along with nine assists for 58 points. She has also collected a team-best 49 ground balls and 44 caused turnovers in addition to ranking second with 41 draw controls.

The 2012 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Leonard ranks second nationally with 2.75 caused turnovers per game, seventh with 3.06 ground balls per game and 17th in the country with 3.06 goals per game.

The weekly accolade is the fourth for Leonard during the 2013 campaign, including the second MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Morgan earned the league’s MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time during her senior campaign. She ranks second on the team with 32 caused turnovers and 42 ground balls, while also adding 32 goals, 11 assists, 43 points and 15 draw controls.

The two-time All-MAAC selection currently ranks ninth in the country with 2.00 caused turnovers per game. Morgan also places fourth in the school’s history with 87 caused turnovers, sixth with 98 career goals and eighth with 123 career points.

Leonard, Morgan and the Griffs now turn their attention toward the postseason where Canisius looks to become the first team in conference history to win three-straight MAAC Championships. The top-seeded Griffs open the conference tournament on Friday against fourth-seeded Siena with first draw scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
