Tournament Bound
• Canisius opens its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament on Friday and is still in search of its first NCAA Tournament win after losing by one goal in its first matchup each of the last two seasons.
• The Griffs will face Penn Friday, with the winner advancing to face No. 1 Maryland on Sunday.
• The Griffs got to the tournament by securing the MAAC’s automatic bid last weekend with their fourth-straight conference title.

Tournament History
• In Canisius’ most recent NCAA Tournament game, the Griffs fell to Penn State 14-13 in 2013, with the team holding a 7-6 lead in the second half of that game.
• The 2012 Griffs fell to UMass 13-12, with the minutewomen scoring the game-winning goal with just four seconds remaining.
• Canisius also fell to UMass in the team’s first NCAA Tournament game in 2011.
• 14 members of the current roster have seen action in an NCAA Tournament game.
• Senior midfielder Maria Kotas leads the way with seven points in tournament games for the Griffs.
• Junior attacker Tori Quinn recorded five points against Penn State last season.


Offense vs. Defense
• Canisius enters Friday’s contest boasting the 13th ranked offense in the nation, with Penn holding the nation’s eighth best defense.
• The Griffs are averaging 13.67 goals per game this season, which is the highest total in program history.
• The Quakers are allowing 7.69 goals per game this season.
• The Griffs are 12-1 when scoring 10 goals or more this season and 0-5 when not and the Quakers have not allowed double-digit goals since March 23.

Milestone Watch
• Senior midfielder Maria Kotas has a chance to rewrite the Canisius record books with a strong performance on Friday.
• Kotas is five points from tying the all-time Canisius points record (203).
• The Lancaster, N.Y. native has her sights on a number of single-season records as well. Kotas needs just one point to take over sole possession of the single season points record (79) which is currently held by junior attacker Tori Quinn. Kotas is three ground balls behind the Griffs’ single-season record (67), five draw controls away from the record (81), five goals behind the record (59) and seven caused turnovers behind the record (58).

Scouting the Quakers
• Penn enters Friday’s contest boasting one of the nation’s top defenses and a pair of Tewaaraton Trophy watch list defenders.
• Goaltender Lucy Ferguson and defender Meg Markham are each contenders for the nation’s top-player award.
• Penn surrenders just 7.69 goals per game and averages 9.0 offensively.

Series History
• This will be the first meeting in program history between the Griffs and Quakers.
• Canisius is 0-2 all-time vs. teams from the Ivy League.
