Women's Lacrosse Hosts Niagara on Senior Day

The Canisius College women's lacrosse hosts Niagara on Wednesday in its final home regular season game of 2012. The local rivals are set to battle on the Griffs' Senior Day at 7 p.m.

SENIOR DAY CELEBRATION
• Prior to Wednesday's game, Canisius will honors its seven seniors - Rachel Brand, Mary Butlak, Meagan Hurley, Megan Oosting, Carly Quinn, Theresa Walton and Kristy Wilensky - for their dedication to the program.
• In the last four seasons, Canisius has won 38 games. The team has finished second in the MAAC standings in each of the previous three years, winning the 2011 conference title.
• The seven seniors have appeared in 366 games with 219 starting assignments, totaling 454 points, 318 goals, 136 assists, 331 draw controls, 328 ground balls and 193 caused turnovers.

BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE
• Wednesday's matchup will also count toward the two rival schools' Battle of the Bridge series.
• Niagara currently leads the 2011-12 series, 14.5-10.5 with the women's lacrosse matchup worth two points.
• The current holder of the Canal Cup, Canisius needs 16.5 points to retain the trophy, while the Niagara needs 17 points to reclaim it.
• The Griffs won the 2010-11 series, 20-13, which included a 19-4 victory in women's lacrosse.

OOSTING EYES GRIFFS' CAREER GOALS RECORD
• Senior Megan Oosting has a chance to make her Senior Day contest a memorable one.
• Oosting currently has 136 career goals, which ranks third in the school's record book.
• The senior is just four goals shy of the program's all-time mark, currently held by Ashley Gray (140).
• Oosting leads all players in the MAAC and ranks 11th nationally with 3.33 goals per game.

QUINN NEARING THE CENTURY MARK
• While Megan Oosting is nearing the program's all-time goals record, classmate Carly Quinn is closing in on a career goals milestone.
• Quinn has totaled 98 career goals and is just two shy of becoming the fifth Griff with 100 career tallies.
• The senior, who has added 78 assists for 176 career points, is also looking to become just the second Griff with 100 career goals and 50 career assists.
• During the 2012 season, Quinn leads the Griffs with 51 points on 22 goals and 29 assists. She also leads all players in the MAAC with 3.92 points per game.

CANISIUS - NIAGARA HISTORY
• The Griffs are meeting the Purple Eagles for the 18th time, matching Marist as Canisius' most frequented opponent.
• Niagara holds a 10-7 advantage in the all-time series.
• Canisius has won the last seven games after the Purple Eagles took the first 10 meetings.
• In the last five games in the series, Canisius has won by an average score of 19.4 to 5.8.
• Last season, the Griffs cruised to a 19-4 victory in Lewiston with Megan Oosting leading the team with six points and five goals.

ABOUT THE PURPLE EAGLES
• Niagara is 3-8 on the season (1-8 against Division I foes) and 0-4 in MAAC play.
• The Purple Eagles have been edged in their most recent conference games, falling by just two goals to Siena and by one tally to Manhattan.
• Emily French leads the team with 31 points and 26 goals this season, while Fran Pollastro ranks second on the Purple Eagles with 26 points and 21 goals.
• Kaitlin Sorgi has appeared in all 11 games in goal for Niagara, posting a 15.42 goals against average and .291 save percentage.
