Griffs Meet UMass in NCAA Tournament Play-In Game

After winning its second-consecutive MAAC Championship, the Canisius College women's lacrosse team continues postseason play at Atlantic 10 Champion and 15th-ranked Massachusetts. The Griffs and Minutewomen meet with an automatic bid to the 16-team NCAA Tournament on the line. First draw on Sunday is set for 11:30 a.m.

• The Griffs earned its spot in the NCAA Tournament Play-In Round by winning the MAAC Championship for the second-straight season.
• Canisius earned victories over Marist, 14-5, and Fairfield, 15-11, en route to the title.
• Junior Morgan Leonard earned Tournament MVP honors after leading the Griffs with nine points and eight goals in the two victories.
• Leonard was joined on the All-Tournament Team by seniors Megan Oosting and Carly Quinn, junior Lindsey Morgan and sophomore Maria Kotas.

• Canisius headlined the 2012 MAAC award winners, collecting three player of the year honors.
• Carly Quinn earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Year accolades, becoming the second Griff to collect the honor (Whitney Card - 2006).
• Megan Oosting was named the league's inaugural Midfielder of the Year.
• Morgan Leonard shared MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors and is the fourth Griff to earn the accolade (Elise Crawford - 2004, Alana Chan - 2005, Allison Daley - 2010).

• In addition to its three Player of the Year honors, Canisius tied a school record with seven all-conference selections.
• Morgan Leonard, Lindsey Morgan, Megan Oosting and Carly Quinn were all named to the All-MAAC First Team. Both Oosting and Quinn were repeat selections on the first team.
• Gabby Kotas, Maria Kotas and Tori Quinn collected second-team accolades.

• Junior Morgan Leonard has had an immediate impact at Canisius in her first year.
• Leonard collected a number of awards the past weekend, highlighted by MAAC Tournament MVP honors. She was also named the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all MAAC accolades.
• The junior continues to get better during the season and is just now reaching her stride. She led the Griffs' offense in two MAAC Tournament wins (8g, 1a). She has also posted 30 points (23g, 7a) in her last 11 games after recording five points (3g, 2a) in the first seven.

• The two schools are meeting for the second-straight season in the NCAA Tournament Play-In Round. The Minutewomen earned a 16-8 victory last year in Amherst.
• Massachusetts used a 6-0 run late in the game after Canisius pulled to within 10-7 to pull away for the victory. Katie Ferris and Jackie Lyons led the Minutewomen with five points (3g, 2a).
• Megan Oosting led the Griffs with three tallies on the afternoon.
• Overall, Canisius is 5-15 all-time against Atlantic 10 teams. The Griffs split a pair of games against the conference in 2012, falling at Duquesne, 17-16, and defeating St. Bonaventure, 20-8.

• Massachusetts advanced to the NCAA Tournament Play-In Game by winning its fourth-straight Atlantic 10 Championship, 14-9 over Richmond.
• Overall, the Minutewomen enter with an 18-1 record with their only loss to No. 1 Northwestern and having won 11-straight contests. They are ranked 15th in the latest IWLCA poll.
• The team is led by Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Katie Ferris. She leads the Minutewomen with 95 points, 57 goals and 38 assists this season in 17 contests.
• Seven different players have tallied at least 30 points for Massachusetts this season. Lauren Terracciano (33g, 30a) and Jesse O'Donnell (43g, 13a) have also surpassed the 50-point mark.
• Katie Florence has started each game in goal with an 8.21 GAA and .424 save percentage.
• Nina Sarcona has 101 draw controls, while UMass ranks first nationally with 17.05 draws per game.
