The Canisius College women’s lacrosse team dominated conference foe Manhattan on Saturday afternoon, 16-4. The Griffs won their seventh-straight game to improve to 9-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in MAAC play, while the Jaspers drop to 3-9 and 0-2 in conference play.

Senior Morgan Leonard and sophomore Tori Quinn led the Canisius attack in the win by both recording a career-best seven points. Leonard netted four goals to go along with three assists, while Quinn tallied two goals and registered a personal-best five assists. Sophomore Meghan Cuddy matched Leonard by scoring a game-high four goals, setting her career high.

Seniors Meghan McGunigle and Lindsey Morgan both chipped in two goals in the winning effort, while junior Maria Kotas and sophomore Tori Greco rounded out the scoring for Canisius with a goal apiece.

Sophomore Kayla Scully earned the victory in net by recording three saves before giving way to freshman Claudia Coleates, who recorded five saves in relief.

The two schools got off to a slow start in the contest with neither squad able to score in the first 12-plus minutes of action. The Griffs finally ended the drought when Morgan scored with 17:41 remaining and the team never looked back. Leonard, McGunigle and Quinn then all quickly added tallies as Canisius scored four goals in just under four minutes for a 4-0 lead.

Manhattan broke its scoring drought with 10:56 remaining in the opening half but the Griffs took complete control of the contest by netting the next five goals for a 9-1 advantage. Both schools added two more tallies as the teams headed into the halftime break with Canisius leading, 11-3.

In the dominating first 30 minutes of action, Canisius outshot the Jaspers, 23-7, and held a 10-5 advantage in draw controls.

In the second stanza, Canisius picked up right where it left off in the first half. The Griffs scored the first five goals of the period to put the game out of reach. Manhattan added one final tally but the Griffs ran away with the 16-4 win for the team’s seventh-straight victory.

The Griffs finished the game with a 32-15 advantage in shots and held a 13-9 edge in draw controls.

Four different players scored a goal for the Jaspers, while Christina Fiorinelli recorded eight saves between the pipes.

The lone unbeaten remaining in the MAAC, the Griffs continue conference play on Wednesday with a home game against Siena. First draw at the Demske Sports Complex is set for 7:15 p.m.
