The Canisius College women’s lacrosse team was picked to repeat as MAAC Champions in the preseason coaches poll, the conference announced on Tuesday. In addition, senior midfielder Maria Kotas and junior attack Tori Quinn were named MAAC Preseason Co-Players of the Year.

The Griffs received 79 points in the nine-team poll, with Marist (67) and Fairfield (64) finishing in second and third. New MAAC member Monmouth, who won the NEC Championship last season, was picked fourth with 57 points. Iona (38), Siena (36), Quinnipiac (32), Niagara (17) and Manhattan (15) rounded out the voting.

Quinn earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2013 while setting the Canisius single-season points record with 47 goals and 32 assists. Quinn also earned IWLCA All-Region honors while leading the MAAC at 4.16 points per game.

Kotas earned MAAC Tournament MVP in 2013 after tallying four goals in the second half of Canisius’ come back win over Marist in the MAAC Championship game. Kotas recorded a career high 67 points in her junior campaign, scoring 42 goal and posting 25 assists.

Joining Kotas and Quinn on the Preseason All-MAAC Team was sophomore midfielder Ashley Bull and junior goalkeeper Kayla Scully. Scully is the reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, while Bull was a First Team All-MAAC selection during her freshman season.

Canisius will begin its season on Sunday, when it travels to face No. 2 Syracuse at 1 p.m.
