Senior midfielder Maria Kotas became the seventh player in program history to score 100-career goals as the Canisius women’s lacrosse team cruised to an 18-6 victory over Robert Morris (6-2) on Monday.

The Lancaster, N.Y. native scored four goals in the contest (with her fourth giving her the milestone), and chipped in an assist for the Griffs.

“First you have to congratulate Maria Kotas on her great accomplishment of 100-goals and in addition, I think we executed our game plan very well early,” said head coach Scott Teeter. “We neutralized their great drawer and made stops on defense and we executed our offense well also. I thought our starters showed that they were focused and ready to play today and that got us off to a great start.”

Junior attack Tori Quinn added three goals and three assists to lead Canisius, who improved to 4-4 on the year, with six points.

After the Colonials scored the game’s first goal, the Blue and Gold would score the following six as part of a 13-2 run to give the Griffs a comfortable lead at the half.

In addition to Kotas and Quinn, another pair of Griffs would score multiple times in the contest, as sophomore midfielder Ashley Bull and sophomore attacker Taylor Giglio each scored three of their own. Junior attack Meghan Cuddy added a pair of goals as well.

Junior midfielder Tori Greco, sophomore midfielder Brenna Murray and sophomore attacker Caroline Ogden each scored a goal to round out the Canisius scoring.

Junior goaltender Kayla Scully made seven saves and earned the win, with sophomore Claudia Coleates stopping two shots of her own.

The Griffs will now begin MAAC play with Iona on Saturday in New Rochelle, N.Y.

NOTES: The Griffs close out their non-conference record with a .500 record or better for the third time in the last four seasons… Including postseason contests, the Griffs will enter MAAC play having won 12-consecutive contests in league play, with the last loss coming at Marist in 2012… Canisius’ loss of the draw control battle (16-10) ends a three-game streak where the Griffs controlled the restart battle.
