Senior midfielder Maria Kotas has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
It’s the second time Kotas has earned the award this season and comes one week after the Lancaster, N.Y. native earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Kotas caused seven turnovers, collected eight draw controls and picked up six ground balls in a pair of wins for the Griffs this week.
In Wednesday’s 20-8 victory over Siena to start the week, Kotas caused four turnovers, picked up four ground balls and won four draw controls and did so while scoring four goals and picking up two assists on the offensive end.
Kotas won another four draw controls in Saturday’s 18-8 win over Manhattan, while causing three turnovers and collecting two ground balls. She also chipped in another two goals and an assist in that contest.
The senior currently ranks in the top-16 nationally in four different statistical categories, including fifth in caused turnovers per game, sixth in ground balls per game, 15th in goals per game and 16th in points per game.
Kotas and the Griffs will return to action on Saturday, when the team hosts Monmouth. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
