The Canisius College women's soccer team closed out the weekend against MAAC opponent Loyola, falling to the Greyhounds by the score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The ninth-place Golden Griffins fell to 2-6-0 in MAAC action and 4-14-0 on the season with the third-place Greyhounds improving to 5-1-1 in league play and 9-4-4 overall.

Facing a 2-0 deficit at the half, the Golden Griffins attacked quickly to open the second stanza. Sophomore Megan Mahoney single-handedly put the Griffs on the board in the 47th minute with an unassisted goal, her fourth of the season. Working in towards the goal from the left side, Mahoney beat the Greyhounds' defenders before firing a low shot in from seven yards out.

After the Griffs cut the lead to 2-1, the Greyhounds added a pair of goals in the 73rd and 80th minute to seal their fifth conference victory.

To open the contest, the Greyhounds struck in the second minute to take an early 1-0 lead over the Golden Griffins. On their second shot of the day, Kelsey Donohue sent a cross inside the six-yard pass to Tessa McClenahan, who shot it in for her second goal of the season.

The Greyhounds extended their lead to 2-0 in the 20th minute, as Gigi Mangione gave a touch pass to Brittany Yancey inside the six-yard box with Yancey tallying her third of the season.

Junior Megan Tock made four saves in the loss, while Loyola goalkeepers Didi Haracic and Danielle Ippolito combined for the win. Haracic made two first-half saves, leading the way for Ippolito, who allowed one goal with zero saves.

The Greyhounds outshot the Griffs, 21-6, in the contest. The host Greyhounds held the Griffs to two shots in the second half, which held back the Griffs' offense in hopes of a rally.

The Blue and Gold will face MAAC rival Niagara on the road on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
