The Canisius College women’s soccer team announced its team awards at the team’s end of the year banquet last week.

The Griffs, who fell in the MAAC Quarterfinals to eventual champion Monmouth, voted on the awards that were handed out.

Freshman defender Bailey Jordan earned Rookie of the Year. The Portland, N.Y. native played in all-20 games with 18 starts as a defender for the Griffs.

The Best Defender Award went to senior goalkeeper Megan Tock. Tock played in all-20 games with 19 starts for the Griffs and had just a 1.76 goals against average. Tock was the MAAC leader saves per game and finished the year ranked ninth in the nation in saves.

Sophomore forward Brittany Krause won the both team’s Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player awards for the Blue and Gold. Krause played in 19 games for the Griffs and scored four goals and tallied five assists. She finished the season tied for fifth in assists in the MAAC.

Senior forward Brianna Smith earned the team’s Golden Boot Award, which is handed out to the player who records the most goals for the Griffs. Smith, a First Team All-WNY selection by Upper 90 magazine, recorded eight goals during her senior campaign to give her 37 total for her career, which places her second on the Griffs’ all-time goal scoring list.

Smith and Krause would share the team’s Silver Shoe Award, which is handed out to the player that records the most assists, and the tandem tied with five assists each.

The Blue and Gold also honored its five seniors at the banquet.  Tock, Smith, midfielders Katie Griffin and Kelly McMahon and defender Adrianna Suk were honored by head coach Jim Wendling at the banquet.

The five seniors were members of the 2010 team that won the MAAC regular season title and finished their career with 32 wins.
