After dropping two straight contests, the Canisius College women's soccer team bounced back with a 2-0 shutout against Duquesne Friday evening at Rooney Field. Following a scoreless first-half, the Golden Griffins tallied a pair of goals in a span of six minutes to seal their victory. The Griffs improved their record to 2-6 and the Dukes fell to 2-5-1 on the season.

Junior Brianna Smith scored the eventual game-winner, as she tallied her third goal of the season in four contests. Fellow junior Katie Griffin recorded her first point of the season to give the Griffs' a two-goal lead.

Junior Megan Tock recorded her third career shutout with 10 saves against the Dukes.

In the first half, the teams played to a tight-scoreless contest with the host Dukes managing to hold an 8-7 shot advantage.

The Griffs struck quick in the second half to take a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. Taking a pass from junior Kelly McMahon, Smith fired a shot from 20 yards out along the left side to give the Griffs' their eventual win.

Only six minutes later, Griffin gave the Griffs a two-goal lead in the 58th minute. Senior Brooke Bandazian lined up a perfect header with the Dukes' goalkeeper Ashley Szalwinski punching the ball out. Griffin slid in front of the loose ball, only to head the ball in for her first goal of the season and a Griffs' 2-0 lead.

The Dukes and Griffs shared ten shots-on-goal each with the host team holding a 19-14 shot advantage.

With only one game this weekend, the Blue and Gold will prepare for their next contest on Friday, Sept. 21 at Bucknell at 7 p.m before hosting Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
