The Canisius College women's soccer team will conclude its non-conference schedule this weekend with a pair of tuneup contests before opening MAAC play. The Golden Griffins open the weekend on the road at Bucknell on Friday evening at 7 p.m. before returning home to the Demske Sports Complex to face Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at noon.

In their lone contest last week, the Griffs captured a 2-0 victory over host Duquesne on Friday evening. After a scoreless first half, the Golden Griffins tallied a pair of goals in a span of six minutes to seal the road victory. Junior Brianna Smith scored the eventual game-winner, as she tallied her third goal in four contests. Fellow junior Katie Griffin recorded her first point of the season, giving the Griffs a two-goal lead over the Dukes. Junior Megan Tock recorded her third career shutout with 10 saves against the Dukes.

TOCK EARNS MAAC HONORS
Tock was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for her shutout performance in goal in the Golden Griffins’ lone match the weekend of Sept. 14 versus Duquesne, the conference office announced. Making her seventh start of the season, Tock collected 10 saves in the Griffs’ 2-0 victory over Duquesne on Friday evening. The junior secured her second shutout of the season, third of her career. Tock’s selection marked the first time a Griffs’ goalkeeper earned conference honors since Leslie Ivancic on Oct. 25, 2010.

Game #10: Sept. 23, 2012 • Noon
DEMSKE SPORTS COMPLEX • BUFFALO, N.Y.

ST. BONAVENTURE NOTES:

• SBU and Bucknell, the Griffs opponent on Friday, faced each other on Sept. 2. Although the Bonnies produced more than twice as many shots as visiting Bucknell, SBU fell by the score of 3-0. The Bisons were near perfect, capitalizing on three of their four total shots on net.
• Last year, the Griffs and St. Bona met at the Big Four Tournament in Lewiston, N.Y. on  Sept. 16. The Griffs walked away with a 4-3 neutral-site win over the Bonnies.
• In the all-time series, the Little Three rivals have met every year since 1984 except in 1997, 2000, 2005, and 2008. The Griffs and Bonnies faced each other twice a year in 1988, 1989, 1994, and 1995.
• In four seasons with the Griffs, head coach Jim Wendling holds a 2-1 record against SBU.
