Entering the contest on a two-game win streak in conference action, the Canisius College women's soccer team was unable to keep their streak alive against MAAC opponent Rider, falling to the host Broncs by the score of 3-0 at Ben Cohen Field on Friday evening. The Griffs dropped to 2-5-0 in MAAC play and 4-13-0 overall with the Broncs improving to 3-2-1 in league play and 8-3-3 for the season.
The Broncs held a 27-6 shot advantage over the Griffs, posting a 12-2 edge in shots on goal.
Holding a 7-0 shot advantage to open the contest, Rider took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. On a corner kick, Demi Mello headed in the first goal of the contest for a Broncs' 1-0 lead with Jody Sokol and Meghan Mohr picking up assists.
With only 11 seconds remaining in the opening half, the Broncs' Sarah Cirigliano extended their lead to 2-0 on a header off a corner kick by Angela Monaco.
In the 69th minute, the Broncs sealed the win with an unassisted goal by Bridgette Bartkowski with a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Bartkowski led the Broncs' offense, recording seven shots and three shots on goal.
Rider goalkeeper Jenn Nichols recorded the win with a pair of saves. Making her second consecutive start, sophomore Brigid St. Leger tied her career game-high of nine saves.
The Blue and Gold will next travel to conference opponent Loyola on Sunday afternoon with the kickoff set for 1 p.m.
