The Griffs extended their spring winning streak now to three with a 1-0 victory of the University at Buffalo on Wednesday, in what was a very physical, defensive battle. The Griffs spring scrimmage record now stands out 3-1-1.

Canisius got its winning goal off a cross from the right side from sophomore forward Brittany Krause that the Bulls keeper mishandled. Junior midfielder Maria Nelms was there to clean it up and put the ball in the back of the net.

“Even though it’s just a spring scrimmage, getting a win over UB is always a positive achievement,” said head coach Jim Wendling. “I liked how the girls played in the first 30-minutes of the game, mounting a strong attack and getting some opportunities on goal. I thought the last 60-minutes we struggled getting much of an attack.”

The tandem of Griffs’ Goalkeepers, junior Brigid St. Leger and sophomore Kailee DeFranks came up with some strong saves and the defensive unit of junior Jenny Pagionne, sophomore Alexis Kroese and freshmen Callie Good and Bailey Jordan managed to preserve the shutout.

Next up, Canisius will travel to Syracuse on Saturday to close out the Griffs’ spring season.
