The Canisius College synchronized swimming team opened the 2012 season by capturing first-place overall at the Boston University Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Case Athletic Center. The Golden Griffins recorded a team score of 100 points to take home the top spot.
"I thought our girls did a great job. Their effort was impressive," said head coach Jill Wright. "I'm looking forward to more energy next weekend at our home meet."
In the solo event, the Golden Griffins swept the top-two spots, as sophomore Svetlana Ponkratova captured first-place with a score of 84.250 followed by senior Jessica Grogan (78.500).
After taking the top spot in the solo event, the Golden Griffins managed to take the duet and trio portions of the Invitational. In the duet, Ponkratova would find herself in the top spot again, this time with junior Victoria Mintz.
For the third time on the day, Ponkratova would be a part of a first-place finish, as the sophomore teamed with Mintz and Mironova to take the trio event.
The Golden Griffins return to action on Friday and Saturday, as the team hosts the Canisius Invitational at the Koessler Athletic Center.
