The Canisius College synchronized swimming team swept each category at the 2012 ECAC Regional Championship en route to capturing its 15th consecutive title at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on Sunday afternoon. The host Griffs secured their title with a final score of 89.875, including first-place performances in the solo, duet, trio, team, A-figures, and B-figures.
The Golden Griffins finished in the top spot in front of Wheaton (86.125) and Boston University (67.500).
"I couldn't be more proud of my team", said Canisius head coach Jill Wright. "They captured our 15th ECAC championship and continued the great tradition of Canisius Synchro! I'm excited to see what they can accomplish at nationals."
In the victory, Wright claimed her sixth ECAC Championship of her coaching career. As a student-athlete for the Griffs, the coach was a part of four championship teams, bringing her career total to 10 ECAC Championships.
Senior Jessica Grogan helped the Griffs defend their title, placing first in the solo event with a score of 85.625. Also, the senior led Canisius to a great first-place performance in the team portion.
The Golden Griffins will conclude the 2012 season at the U.S. Collegiate National Championships on March 15-17 in Gainesville, Fla.
