The Canisius College softball team improved to 3-1 on the year with a pair of wins on the final day of the Cleveland State Indoor Tournament at the Krenzler Dome in Cleveland, Ohio. The Golden Griffins dropped Bucknell by a score of 4-1 in the first game and then followed that victory by cruising to a 10-2 win over St. Bonaventure. The 3-1 start for the Blue and Gold marks the best start for the program since the 2008 campaign.

Canisius will return to action Feb. 22-24 when the team travels to Greensboro, N.C., to take part in the North Carolina A&T Invitational. The Griffs will start their weekend with a pair of games on Friday, Feb. 22 against Manhattan and Maryland Eastern-Shore. The game against the Jaspers will start at 11 a.m., and will count as a non-league game on Canisius' schedule.

GAME ONE
The Griffs scored a single run in the second and then broke the game open with a three-run fifth and senior pitcher Amanda Baun earned her second win of the weekend after she allowed just one run through six innings in Canisius' 4-1 win over Bucknell. The Griffs collected seven hits as a team in the victory and the Blue and Gold was able to take advantage of four Bucknell (1-2) errors as well.

Leading 1-0 after a Tori Nappo RBI-single in the second inning, Canisius jumped on the Bisons with three runs in the fifth thanks to three Bucknell errors in the frame. Freshman Meghan Cuda got the inning started when she reached safely on a bunt base hit and she later scored in the frame. Valorie Nappo added an RBI-single to right in the fifth that drove in freshman Alexis Roman.

Those runs were more than enough for Baun, who improved to 2-0 in her first two starts of the 2013 campaign. The senior from Riverside, Calif., went six innings and allowed just one run, an unearned tally, on five hits to go with five walks. Junior Jen Consaul picked up her second save of the season after she tossed a scoreless inning where she posted a strikeout.

GAME TWO
The Griffs overcame a 2-0 deficit with a four-run outburst in the top of the third and the Blue and Gold added runs in the fifth and in the top of the seventh to roll to a 10-2 win over St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies fell to 0-7 with the loss.

Cuda reached base safely four times in the win over the Bonnies, as she went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Cuda was one of five Canisius players to record multiple hits, as the Griffs racked up 10 runs on 15 hits en route to the victory.

Senior Stephanie Pfentner went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Valorie Nappo, Tori Nappo and Marissa Miller all had two hits, with Miller driving in a career-high four RBIs. Sophomore Erica Afanador also had two RBIs for the Griffs in the victory as she hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh.

Consaul improved to 1-1 in the circle after she went the distance and allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one. Julia Pratt took the loss for the Bonnies after she gave up 15 runs on 10 hits through 6.1 innings of work.
