Miami University scored 17 straight runs to overcome an early 5-0 deficit en route to a 20-11 win over the Canisius baseball team on Friday afternoon. The Golden Griffins see their eight-game winning streak come to an end and fall to 10-4 on the season.

The Griffs batted around in the top of the third, starting the inning with the first four batters reaching base. Junior Connor Panas singled and freshman Christ Conley was hit by a pitch. Senior Jose Torralba followed with an RBI double and senior Ronnie Bernick then had a two-RBI single. The Griffs then used a two-out triple from senior Shane Zimmer and a two-out single from sophomore Brett Siddall to take a 5-0 lead.

Miami would score the next 17 runs in the game. The Redhawks scored three runs in the third and fourth innings, one more in the fifth and then scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to break the game wide open. Gary Russo went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and six RBI while Max Andersen was 5-for-6 with four RBI for Miami

Conley reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two walks and an HBP. Siddall was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Panas was 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Freshman Zachary Trumpler made his first career start and allowed three runs in 2.2 innings. Senior Mike Tolsma (2-1) took the loss by allowing four runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings. Freshman Michael Ginther made his Canisius debut and got the final two outs of the game.

Canisius will play two games on day two of the Flyer Classic on Saturday. Canisius faces Dayton at noon and then plays a neutral-site game against Miami at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at Woerner Field at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
