The Cansius College Synchronized Swimming team placed fourth at the U.S. Collegiate National Championships this week.
Lindenwood took home the overall championship with 96 points, and the Griffs finished with 62 points, 10 behind third place Stanford. Ohio State finished second.
The Griffs, who also placed fourth in 2013, were led by senior Svetlana Ponkratova, who took home the bronze in the solo routine with a score of 84.80. Ponkratova finished fourth in the event last season.
Sophomore Laura Schmidt also competed in the solo routine, finishing sixth.
In the duet routine, sophomore Laina Gray and senior Jessica Mancini took fifth. The pair swam to a score of 83.70, 5.6 points behind the winning duo from Lindenwood.
The Blue and Gold had two routines make the trio finals, with Schmidt, Ponkratova and Gray, taking sixth (83.05), while Mancini, and seniors Morgan Lebrecht and Deanna Desimone finished ninth (79.55). Lindenwood took the top-spot in trios as well with a score of 88.60.
The Canisius team routine, which was comprised of Ponkratova, Schmidt, Gray, Lebrecht, Desimone, and seniors Viktoria Mironova and sophomore Kristin Oswald, finished seventh (82.30).
Ponkratova took fifth in ‘A’ figures, while Schmidt and Mancini took 10th and 11th respectively in ‘B’ figures.
The U.S. Collegiate Nationals brings the 2014 campaign to a close for the Griffs.
