Bob McCloskey Insurance, a corporate partner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, announced today that former Canisius cross country runner Maura Frauenhofer has received one of the MAAC's two Post-Graduate Scholarships.
Frauenhofer served as a two-time team captain for the Canisius women's cross country program and closed out her career in Blue and Gold by finishing second at the 2010 MAAC Cross Country Championships. The 2011 Canisius College Female Athlete of the Year, Frauenhofer was honored as the MAAC's Female Runner of the Week five times, with three of those honors coming in her senior campaign, and she posted top-20 finishes in four-straight MAAC Championship events. She is currently enrolled in medical school at the Loyola (Chicago) Stritch School of Medicine and she is also a member of the Society of Women's Health, American Medical Association and Integrative Medicine Club. At the Society of Women's Health, the Williamsville, N.Y., native assists in monthly gynecological clinics for underserved members of the Chicago community.
As part of Bob McCloskey Insurance's partnership with the MAAC, two post-graduate scholarships are presented to a male and female student-athlete in the league's member institutions who perform exceptionally, both athletically and academically. The scholarships promote these accomplished student-athletes to continue their education by attending graduate school. Along with academic success, other criteria in the selection process includes campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and leadership demonstration.
