Senior Cory Conacher of the hockey team and senior Maura Frauenhofer of the women's cross country team were honored as the Canisius College Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the athletic department's annual awards ceremony, held on May 3 in the Montante Cultural Center. The awards were voted on by Canisius student-athletes, coaches, administrators and support staff.

During his tenure at Canisius, Conacher enjoyed one of the most successful careers in the program's history. As a senior, he led the Griffs with 42 points, 23 goals, 19 assists and eight power-play tallies, earning all-conference accolades for the second-consecutive season. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-America First Team honoree ranked 12th nationally with 0.62 goals per game, while his 23 goals are the most in the school's record book.

The 2009-10 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year set or matched 12 career, single-season and single-game records during his four seasons. He owns career marks with 147 points, 62 goals and 12 game-winning tallies, while also setting single-season records with 53 points and 33 assists as a junior to go along with his school-standard of 23 goals set this season.

Frauenhofer anchored the Canisius cross country team to a second-place finish at the MAAC Championship, the team's highest finish since 1997. On an individual note, Frauenhofer placed second at the conference's championship, the best performance by a Griff since Allison Carr in 1997.

During her career, Frauenhofer garnered MAAC Runner of the Week five times, including three times during her senior campaign. She finished in the top 20 of the MAAC Championship in all four of her seasons at Canisius.

Conacher is the first male athlete to repeat as Athlete of the Year and it also marks the fourth time that a hockey player has garnered the award, the most of any sport at Canisius. Frauenhofer is the first cross country player to receive the honor.
