The Canisius College men's and women's cross country teams completed their sixth-consecutive sweep of MAAC rival Niagara and host St. Bonaventure at the Little Three Championship on Friday morning in Olean, N.Y. In individual performances, sophomore Chad Maloy defended his men's title with a first-place finish, while junior Mikelle Cala placed second in the women's race.

The Golden Griffin men captured their seventh straight team title at the Little Three Championship with a first-place finish of 16 points. The Griffs secured their finish after taking the top four spots, including seven of the eight top-finishes. Following the Griffs were St. Bonaventure in second (49) and Niagara in third (78).

Defending his individual men's title, Maloy coasted into the top-spot with a time of 15:50, more than a 30-second lead over second-place finisher and fellow Griff Alex Simon (16:21). Maloy's victory preserved the Griffs' streak of capturing the men's individual crown since the 2007 race.

Placing in the top-four were Maloy (15:50), Simon (16:21), freshman Cooper Roach (16:22), and junior Nate McCabe (16:27). Also finishing in the top-ten were senior Aaron Hoven  (16:39), freshman Michael Anvelt (16:40), and sophomore Chris Sauvageau.

In tight race on the women's side, the Griffs were able to win their sixth consecutive Little Three team title with 30 points. St. Bonaventure followed closely behind in second (43) and Niagara finished third (49). Of the top-ten finishers, five were Griff runners.

The tight race for the overall team-finish in the women's race was shared in the finish for the top individual. Cala, the 2010 Little Three Champion, battled with Kim Vona of Niagara for top honors, as Cala came in second (19:25) to Vona's first-place finish (19:20).

Finishing in the top-five were Cala in second (19:25) and junior Jaime Wallace in fifth (20:15), who ran in her first race since last season at the Niagara Catholic Championship on Sept. 16. Also placing in the top-ten were sophomore Morgan Atkins in sixth (20:31), freshman Mary Kate Chambers in eighth (21:12) and sophomore Brandi Pettit in ninth (21:13).

Including Friday's victory, the Griff men have captured 27 team titles, while the women have taken 22 titles at the Little Three Championship.
