Nine members of the Canisius College cross country program have been named to the MAAC All-Academic Teams, as announced by the conference office at the league championships on Saturday afternoon. Among the nine Golden Griffins chosen, six were from the men's team and three from the women's squad.
For the third straight year, the Golden Griffins had nine runners named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, tying the previous program mark.
The female honorees included junior Mikelle Cala (3.50 GPA - Biology), sophomore Morgan Atkins (3.97 GPA - Childhood Education Gr 1-6), and sophomore Brandi Pettit (3.93 GPA - Physical Education/Health Education). Cala earned her second selection, while Atkins and Pettit received their first.
A total of six men's runners achieved the honor, including two seniors, two juniors, and two sophomores. Earning their third selections were seniors Alex Simon (3.65 GPA - Computer Science) and Aaron Hoven (3.54 GPA - International Business). Juniors Richard Looby (3.53 GPA - Psychology) and Nate McCabe (3.56 GPA - Physics) both received their second selections, while freshmen Andrew Coy (3.55 GPA - Biology) and Chris Sauvageau (3.59 GPA - Physical Education/Health Education) received their first selections.
To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.2 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
