Scoring the first nine goals of the contest, the Canisius College women's lacrosse team dominated St. Bonaventure by the score of 18-3 on Monday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The Golden Griffins improved to 6-3 on the season, winning sixth of their last seven contests.

"We got off to a great start in both halves," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We minimized our mistakes offenseively and we were able to play our own style of defense for a full 60 minutes."

Sophomore Tori Quinn led the Griffs' offensive attack with six points off five goals and an assist. Senior Morgan Leonard and junior Maria Kotas tallied five points each with Leonard scoring four goals and Kotas adding three to the Griffs' total.

The Griffs dominated play throughout the contest, taking control from the start. With 23 seconds ticked off the clock, Leonard gave the Griffs a 1-0 lead. The senior scored four of the Griffs' first eight goals of the contest with three unassisted.

After nine straight goals in the first half by Canisius, St. Bonaventure (5-3) found the back of the net with less than 40 seconds remaining. The Bonnies' Jenna Schalgenhauf individually beat the Griffs for the team's first and only goal of the first half. Schalgenhauf contributed to all three of the Bonnies' tallies including two goals and an assist.

Holding a 9-1 lead to open the second half, Quinn scored the Griffs' first goal with an unassisted tally. Parked at the right side of the net, Quinn added a man-up goal on a feed pass from Leonard at 13:23 of the second half to extend the Griffs' lead to 14-2. On the next play, Quinn added an assist on Kotas' second goal of the contest.

In the closing seconds of the contest, freshman Kali Baird scored her first career goal with only 0.2 seconds remaining to give the Griffs an 18-3 win.

Sophomore Kayla Scully and freshman Claudia Coleates evenly split time in net. Picking up the win, Scully recorded five saves in the first half. The sophomore kept the Bonnies off the scoresheet until the final minute of play in the first half. Coleates stopped three shots in her fourth appearance.

Bonnies' goalkeeper Karly Kocis posted 15 saves, recording her first loss of the season.

Converting on half their shots, the Griffs held a 36-15 shot advantage over the Bonnies.

The Blue and Gold will open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action against Iona on Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex at 2 p.m.
