The Canisius College indoor track team will close out its regular season on Saturday at SUNY Brockport.
“This is our final tune-up for the MAAC Championships, so we probably won’t be putting people in their primary events,” said head coach Nate Huckle. “It’s more about people going down in distance and working on speed. We’re most focused on our performances at MAACs and this is just a stepping stone for that.”
It’s the second week in a row that the Blue and Gold has competed at Brockport, with a number of Griffs having strong performances in last week’s Golden Eagle Invitational.
Freshman Haley Keene led the way for Canisius, breaking the school record in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:01.53, which was the fifth school record that the Griffs had broken in a two-week span.
“The team is really excited right now,” Huckle said. “They’re excited to go back to Brockport, it’s as nice as any facility we’ve been on all year, and they’re looking forward to going after personal bests in other events even if they’re not in their primary event. We’re also really looking forward to heading down to the Armory in New York City on that banked track that’s always fast, and going against the great competition in the MAAC conference, so the team is excited to be building up to that.”
The meet will get underway on Saturday at 10 a.m.
