Opening the season on the road, the Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Little Three rival St. Bonaventure in their home opener at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on Friday afternoon. The Bonnies managed to complete a sweep of the host Golden Griffins with a 145-90 victory on the men's side and a 145.5-88.5 win on the women's side.

In 26 total events, the two teams combined to break 14 Koessler Athletic Center Pool records.

"We had an improved perofrmance tonight while correcting a lot of our mistakes," said head coach Scott Vanderzell. "It was definitely nice to break school records this early in the season, which displays our progression as we become a team."

On the women's side, freshman Clare Battaglia continues to step up for the Griff women. Capturing first-place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.49, the freshman set both the school record and the Koessler Athletic Center pool record. In addition, Battaglia placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:08.74.

In addition to Battglia's record-breaking performance, fellow freshman Alex Doody set the program record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a second-place performance of 2:29.17. In the race, St. Bonaventure's McKenzie Courtney broke the KAC Pool record with a record-setting time of 2:27.55 en route to a first-place finish.

The Golden Griffin received strong performances on the diving board, as freshman Audrey Mulhisen took home top honors in both the one-meter (219.67) and three-meter (213.83) diving events. Sophomore Taylor Epstein finished second in both events with a score of 192.37 in the one-meter and 195.52 in the three-meter.

For the Golden Griffin men, the underclassmen duo of sophomore Sam Hansen and freshman Spencer Bray provided the team with solid efforts.

In his first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, Hansen set the KAC Pool record in a time of 2:11.06. The sophomore would also place second in the 200-yard IM (2:01.63) behind a pool record-setting finish by SBU's Matt Rochna (2:00.92).

Bray secured a pair of second-place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.19) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.22).

The Blue and Gold will return to the pool on Sunday, December 2 when they host Binghamton at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool at noon.
