Griffs Host Geneseo in Home Finale on Senior Day

The Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will complete a busy week on Saturday afternoon, as the Golden Griffins host SUNY Geneseo at the Koessler Athletic Center for the team's home finale.

Counting their race against SUNY Geneseo, the Golden Griffins have competed in three duals in six days. This past Sunday, the Griffs hosted Binghamton at the Koessler Athletic Center before traveling to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in the Cleveland Dual hosted by Cleveland State.

In Sunday's dual with the Binghamton, the Bearcats swept the Griffs capturing a win 199-101 win on the men's side and a final tally of 191-109 in the women's event.

The Golden Griffins quickly hit the road on Tuesday, as they traveled to Cleveland State for the Cleveland Dual. Joining the host Vikings at the Cleveland Dual were the Griffs, John Carroll, Case Western Reserve, and Notre Dame College.

The Canisius men defeated Case Western Reserve (149-91), Notre Dame (198 -38), and John Carroll (198-32). The Griffs' lone loss in the dual came at the hands of the Vikings, 149-91.

The Golden Griffin women also captured wins over Case Western Reserve (168.50-73.50), Notre Dame (163-76), and John Carroll (186-49). The visiting Griffs fell to the Vikings, 164-91.

Saturday's dual will mark the final home meet for a combined seven seniors, including five on the men's team and two on the women's team. Competing in their final home dual for the men are Tyler Carver, Mike Disco, Matt Moessinger, Rob Novak, Shawn Parkhurst For the women, Alexa Gigliotti and  Annelise Gunn-Taylor will make their final home appearance for the Blue and Gold.

Although this is their final home dual, these seven seniors will compete in Buffalo one last time during the 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in February at the ECC Burt Flickinger Center.

For these seven seniors, they have ushered in a new era of swimming and diving at Canisius. As head coach Scott Vanderzell's first recruited class, each senior has lifted Canisius in the conference rankings. At last year's conference championships, Both squads recorded their highest point totals and best team finishes at the conference championship, as the men finished second overall with 587.50 points and the women placed fifth with 331.50 points.
