The Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday morning when they travel to Erie, Pa. to face Gannon in a non-conference dual at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion.

With over a month seperating the Golden Griffins from their last dual at home on Dec. 8 against SUNY Geneseo at the Koessler Athletic Center, the team is eager to compete.

It has been a long break in action for both Canisius and Gannon, who have not competed in a dual in quite awhile. Both squads traveled to Florida for their winter training programs in preparation for the final stretch of the season. For the Griffs, their travels landed them in Vero Beach, while Gannon trained on the Gulf Coast in Largo.

Prior to the Golden Griffins' trip to Florida, both the men and women swept visiting SUNY Geneseo in their home finale by identical scores of 136-97 on Senior Day.

Competing in three duals within six days, the Golden Griffin men and women turned in strong performances in the fury of competition by capturing three of the four MAAC weekly awards. The men swept the pair of weekly honors with senior Shawn Parkhurst named men's swimmer of the week and sophomore Eddie Quarantillo receiving men's diver of the week. For the Golden Griffin women, freshman Audrey Mulhisen secured the top spot as women's diver of the week. This marked the first time a Griff has received a weekly honor on either side for head coach Scott Vanderzell.

On Saturday, Gannon will host the Griffs in their home finale at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The women's team enters the weekend ranked 19th in the recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II Swimming and Diving national rankings with a 6-6 overall record in duals. The men's team boasts a 6-4 dual record, collecting consecutive wins in their two duals against Fredonia State and Penn State-Behrend.

In the previous two meetings between Canisius and Gannon, the Golden Griffin men have captured wins while the Golden Griffin women have lost each matchup. After falling to Boston College the day before at the KAC, the Griff men bounced back with a 148-86 win over the visiting Knights on Jan. 14, 2011. The Golden Griffin women dropped a close decision to the Knights by the score of 59-54.
