The Canisius College synchronized swimming team recorded their second consecutive top finish at an invitational this season, capturing first at the Wheaton College Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Balfour Natatorium.
The Golden Griffins swept all four routines in their first-place performance with 100 points. Finishing second was host Wheaton (84 points) followed by Boston University (68.5 points) and Smith (14 points).
The Griffs swam to a first-place finish (86.667) in the team routine to remain undefeated in the category this season. The team consisted of seniors Melissa Andrews and Victoria Mintz, juniors Morgan Lebrecht, Jessica Mancini and Svetlana Ponkratova, sophomore Viktoria Mironova, and freshmen Laina Gray and Laura Schmidt.
Ponkratova continues to dominate for the Golden Griffins in the solo routine, securing a first-place finish (85.167) by defeating second-place finisher Kayla Moses of Wheaton by five points (80.167).
For the third straight meet, the duet of Ponkratova and Mintz scored a first-place finish (84.000). Joining the duet in the top-three was the pairing of junior Deanna DeSimone and freshman Kristin Oswald placing third overall (75.667).
In the trio routine, the Golden Griffins swept the top-two spots. The team of Mintz, Mancini, and Mironova occupied first-place with a score of 83.000 followed by the team of Gray, Schmidt, and Lebrecht in second (77.833). The team of Mintz, Mancini, and Mironova have captured first place in all three of the Griffs' meets this season.
The Blue and Gold will take the next two weeks to prepare for the ECAC Championships on Saturday, Mar. 1 at the University of Penn. The Griffs will look to take their 16th consecutive team title at the championship.
