The first graduate in the program’s history to play in the NHL, Cory Conacher ’11 has returned to Buffalo as a member of the Ottawa Senators as the team prepares to face the Sabres on Friday night.

In his first season in the NHL, Conacher ranks second among rookies in the league with 24 points, scoring nine goals to go along with 15 assists. On Wednesday, the Calder Trophy candidate was traded to the Senators from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“I had four years here that I will always remember,” Conacher said. “The coaching staff at Canisius – Dave Smith, Mike Mankowski, who recruited me, and B.J. Adams, who is here now – those were guys that helped me develop while I was here. They gave me those minutes to work on defense and the little things to get me to the next level.”
