The Canisius College women’s lacrosse team swept the players of the year awards at Thursday night’s MAAC banquet. Junior attacker Tori Quinn was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season, senior midfielder Maria Kotas earned MAAC Midfielder of the Year and sophomore midfielder Ashley Bull was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

The league’s coaches vote on the awards and this marks the second-straight season in which Canisius has swept all-three categories.

Kotas currently ranks in the top-20 nationally of four statistical categories. The Lancaster, N.Y. native ranks second in caused turnovers per game (2.69), fifth in ground balls (3.44), 11th in points per game (4.38) and 20th in goals per game (2.94). She also ranks 27th in draw controls.

Quinn has amassed 65 points on the year, which currently ranks second on the Griffs. She has scored 42 goals and is tied for the team lead with 23 assists.

Bull was an All-MAAC First Team selection in 2012 as well and ranks second on the team with 60 draw controls and 34 ground balls, and third on the team with 18 caused turnovers.

In addition to Bull, Kotas and Quinn, senior defender Gabby Kotas was named to the All-MAAC First Team.

The Griffs also had three Second Team All-MAAC selections in sophomore attacker Taylor Giglio, junior midfielder Meghan Cuddy and sophomore defender Sami Franco.

Freshman midfielder Ashley Heisler also represented the Griffs on the MAAC All-Rookie Team.

In addition to the eight players who were honored for their on-field performance, Canisius had eight players honored for their work in the classroom as well on Thursday evening by the league.

Maria Kotas, juniors Ari Anderson, Casey Depauw, Tori Greco, Quinn and Natalie Wagaman, as well as sophomores Bull and Alexis Roskovich were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

In order to make the all-academic team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and have been at the institution for at least one-full year prior.

The Griffs will now look to add more accolades this season as they prepare for the MAAC Championships this weekend. Canisius has won the last three MAAC titles and earned the subsequent berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Canisius’ quest for four-straight championships begins on Friday at 8 p.m. when the Griffs take on Fairfield at the Demske Sports Complex.
