After a strong showing in their first appearance at the Jesuit Invitational in Camden, N.J. on March 16, the Canisius College Varsity Eight was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Crew of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the conference.
"We're certainly proud to have our first MAAC crew of the week from Canisius College," said head coach Joel Furtek. "It's a great reminder to everyone on our team that we are part of the greater effort in our conference to go faster -- always faster. We know that all of our member schools and rowing affiliates are driving on each week, and that the MAAC Championships will be full of good racing at every level."
The Golden Griffins' Varsity Eight finished third overall (7:56.0) ahead of MAAC opponents Loyola (8:25.8) and Fairfield (8:39.2) in securing their first conference honor in program history.
The Varsity Eight included sophomore Liz Reinwald, senior Alyssa Eddy, freshman Corrine Kickel, freshman Nora Kennon, junior Liz McKinney, junior Nancy Kennish, senior Stephanie Sanfilipo, junior Lynna Paradiso and freshman coxswain Hannah Blum.
