Following a successful fall season and the conclusion of off-season training, the Canisius College rowing team will compete in its first race of the spring this weekend at the Sacred Heart Invitational in Fairfield, Conn. The Golden Griffins will be competing among nine total teams at the two-day race along the Housatonic River on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1.
"My goal is that we race very hard with the ruthless, aggressive pulling that we have repeatedly talked about with our team," said head coach Joel Furtek.
The field of competition at the Invitational will be comprised of Army, Skidmore, and Albany, as well as five MAAC squads. The Golden Griffins will join four MAAC opponents on the Housatonic, including Fairfield, Iona, Drake, and Marist.
"This will be our first opportunity to row MAAC opponents. It is a good opportunity to race some good speed that we will see later on, as a preview for the MAAC Championship," explained Furtek.
