The Canisius College rowing team returns to the water this weekend at one of the premier regattas on the east coast, the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J. on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15. The Golden Griffins will make their first appearance at the event, competing along the Cooper River with over 60 schools from across the nation represented. The Griffs open Saturday's competition with the varsity eight race at 11:33 a.m. followed by the second varsity eight race at 12:22 p.m.
The varsity eight boat will open competition for the Golden Griffins on Saturday afternoon at 11:33 a.m. The Griffs will compete in the fifth heat along with Wisconsin (lightweight), George Mason, and a pair of ACC members North Carolina and Miami (Fla.).
Joining fellow ACC members UNC and Miami will be the reigning 2012 San Diego Classic winner Duke. The field includes Big 12 member Kansas, and Big East members UConn, Rutgers, West Virginia, and host Villanova.
Also competing in the varsity eight race will be crosstown rival Buffalo, and a pair of MAAC opponents in Marist and Fairfield.
In a field of 31 teams from across the country, the Griffs must finish in the top 18 to advance to the next round of competition on Sunday.
Following the varsity eight race will be the second varsity eight race at 12:22 p.m. The Golden Griffins will be grouped into the third heat in this race. The Griffs will join Buffalo, North Carolina, UConn, Colgate, and Trinity.
